“Written with discernment and love” was how Hawaii’s magazine The Beacon described these stories in the early 1960’s when they were published in the islands.




“Even as we arrived on Lanai, we foresaw that plantation life would end.  The property was too beautiful and too valuable for pineapple,” the author writes in the introduction to this volume.  “I decided to write stories about island people, to capture their genuineness, their sweetness and innocence, their lives and loves, before the uniqueness of Maui was gone forever.”  -- The author
