Dancing With the Dog

Susan Kennedy lives on the Russian River in West Sonoma County, California, where she plays the dumbek, raises goats, and belly dances. She is a poet/teacher in the California Poets in the Schools program, and in 1994 published Cazadero Poems with Mike Tuggle.

“Susan Kennedy stands next to Sharon Olds when it comes to writing about eros and family.  Susan writes from a rural place;  her Goddess is earth-centered: gardens, dances;  favors creeks, streams and redwood trees.  One of the most sensual poets writing today, she also has a terrific sense of humor.  Her wit is not a clever manipulation of language, but comes to us in plain speech rich in imagery and metaphor”.
